Bob Beckel: Trump Should Not Control Nuclear Codes Because 'He's Starting to Lose It'

March 7, 2017

Fox News co-host Bob Beckel said Monday that President Trump should "not have control of the nuclear codes" because he is "starting to lose it" while discussing the president's accusation that Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 election.

Prior to Beckel's comments, co-host Greg Gutfeld defended Trump and said that it appeared he was venting out of frustration over Attorney General Jeff Sessions recusing himself from probes related to the 2016 campaign two days earlier.

"His anger manifested itself in a tweet. This is human. I've done this four times at Fox," Gutfeld said. "When something at work bugs me, what do I do? I go on Twitter and I vent and I have 'tweegret.'"

"His Saturday tweet was a manifestation of anger over what happened on Friday because he had a great week with his speech," Gutfeld continued. "He felt the Sessions recusal ruined that moment. He was mad at his staff, so he did this tweet and I don't think he recognized how big the tweet was going to land."

Beckel responded that the chance of there being clarity on this issue is equivalent to him winning the Boston Marathon.

"In order to get a FISA judge to agree to a wiretap of a U.S. citizen requires very strong proof of a felony or treason. Now that means that Trump wants to get for that," Beckel said before being interrupted by co-host Eric Bolling.

Beckel told him to get his pom poms if he wanted to cheer for Trump. Bolling responded by claiming that the FISA court grants wiretaps all the time.

"This is not for the Beckel Almanac. I've been in a FISA Court. I know what goes on and you don't and that's wrong," Beckel said.

"Are you questioning the numbers?" Bolling asked.

"Yes. I question the–and you know what? Here's the other thing. Very simple, there's a list of who got a FISA charge and who didn't, and a FISA judge can look into it and be asked to look into it and they will find out and there will be no Trump name on it," Beckel said.

"This guy is now, almost to the point–and I have a very strong suggestion as an American–I think that he ought not have control of the nuclear codes ... because this guy is starting to lose it," Beckel added.
