A Texas woman shot and killed her fiancé on Thursday after he attacked her.

Police said they found 32-year-old Flores Canales dead in the couple’s Arlington, Texas home after responding to a 3:30 a.m. call by his 27-year-old fiancé. The woman had wounds consistent with an attack, according to police, and Canales had a history of domestic abuse. Police said they had evidence the shooting came during another instance of domestic violence.

"I can tell you that we do firmly believe she was victimized," Arlington Police Sgt. VaNessa Harrison told KHOU. "We didn’t want to further victimize her."

Flores’ sister Lorena said her younger brother suffered from PTSD but had gotten better. She told KHOU that she was confused and upset by the situation.

"I just want everyone to know, you know, he wasn’t perfect, but he didn’t deserve to die," she told the news station. "Nobody deserves to die."

Lorena told Fox 4, however, that she knew the couple was having issues.

"I know they had issues, but we never really talked about it," she said.

One neighbor said the situation came as a surprise.

"They were very friendly," Luanne Humphreys, who lives nearby, told Fox 4. "I mean, they would wave hi and strike up a conversation. I never would have imagined this."

Police did not arrest Canales’ fiancé, but the district attorney’s office is still weighing whether or not to file charges.
