President Donald Trump touted the deliverance of "historic tax relief for the American people" on Wednesday after the House and Senate passed the most sweeping overhaul of the nation's tax system in a generation.

The House passed the legislation 224-201 in a revote Wednesday due to a procedural error a day earlier when aspects of the initial legislation did not comply with Senate budget rules. The changes were mere formalities.

The Senate passed the bill late Tuesday night by a 51-48 vote.

Included with Trump's tweet was a gif declaring the legislation to be "tax cuts for Christmas."

"We are delivering HISTORIC TAX RELIEF for the American people!" he tweeted, adding a hashtag for the bill's name, The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

The tax reform represents the most significant legislative victory so far for the Trump administration. It did not receive any Democratic support, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) savaging it as the worst bill in the history of the U.S. Congress.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump touted the tax cuts as "so large and so meaningful," and ripped the media for following the "lead of their friends, the defeated Dems" and demeaning the legislation.

"This is truly a case where the results will speak for themselves, starting very soon. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!" he wrote.

Aspects of the legislation include a dramatic cut in the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent, cutting individual rates, doubling the standard deduction, and eliminating the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act.
