Police Investigating Knife Found Buried at Former Home of O.J. Simpson

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a knife that was found on the property of the former home of ex-football star O.J. Simpson.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is testing the weapon, a buck knife, which was recovered from the property previously owned by Simpson. A construction worker turned over the knife to a police officer years ago, an unnamed source said.

The knife was made known to detectives recently, the source told the Times, and investigators are now trying to determine where it came from.

The development comes just as Simpson’s 1995 acquittal in the killings of Nicole Brown Simpson, his ex-wife, and her friend Ron Goldman receives renewed attention. A television show documenting the murder case, "The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story," is currently airing on FX.

Nicole Brown Simpson and Goldman were found stabbed to death in 1994, though the knife used was never found.

A member of O.J. Simpson’s 1995 legal team regarded the development Friday as "ridiculous."

"It’s amazing how the world cannot move on from this case!" attorney Carl Douglas said. "And it, and the media, is apparently still fascinated by everything O.J. Simpson."

More than a decade after his acquittal, Simpson was arrested in connection with a Las Vegas robbery and was booked on charges of robbery, assault, burglary, and conspiracy. He was eventually found guilty of 12 charges, including kidnapping and armed robbery,  in 2008 and was sentenced to up to 33 years in jail.
