Maverick PAC, a group that brings together young professionals with elected officials and national thought leaders, is holding their annual conference this weekend in Washington, D.C.
The conference will be held from July 14 to July 16 and will host Vice President Mike Pence who will headline the event. Also addressing the conference are Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), Rep. Mike Gallagher (R., Wis.), and Rep. Trey Hollingsworth (R., Ind.) to name a few.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) helped create the group in 2004 and expanded it by recruiting top young professionals in different industries. Former president George Bush chaired the group in 2009 and now there are currently 35 chapters located across the country.
"What we focus on is really cultivating young donors and young members of Congress," said Morgan Ortagus, the PAC's national co-chair. "So we're made up of people who are young lawyers, people in finance, entrepreneurs, people in medicine."
Ortagus said the conference gives an opportunity for these young leaders to meet and learn from the nation's leaders in politics and that many of the current members of House and Senate were part of the PAC before entering Congress.
"When members of Congress support us or come to our events it's because they know they are cultivating young donors and there's lot of people that I've gotten involved with the PAC that have never been involved with politics before," she said.
