Las Vegas Man Breaks Free From Armed Home Intruders, Shoots Them

A Las Vegas man and his girlfriend are alive after a harrowing ordeal involving a home invasion, duct tape, and gunshots.

The couple was in their home Tuesday night when two armed men broke in. The intruders bound the couple with duct tape and demanded money from them.

However, the man was able to break free from the tape and retrieve a gun.

"I'm not sure how he was able to break free, but he was able to retrieve a firearm and shoot the suspect multiple times," policeĀ Lt. Dan McGrath told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The homeowner shot both of the intruders and killed one of them. His girlfriend was shot in the arm during the ordeal, but police didn't specify how this occurred.

Police told reporters that they suspect the second armed intruder was a man who showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound in his rear. He and the girlfriendĀ are both recovering in the hospital.

The ordeal has left the victims and their community frightened.

"The people inside the residence are pretty shaken up," McGrath told the paper.

The homeowner's neighbor, who called 911 the night of the attack, said he could tell right away that something was very wrong. "My window is like 10 feet away from that door," Matt Ciaglia told KSNV. "I knew the way that guy was yelling something pretty bad must have happened."

Neighbors said they were glad the homeowner was able to get to his gun and that they had little sympathy for the intruders.

"Thank goodness whoever lives there had a gun because if they didn't, who knows what could have happened," Lisa Warren told CBS8.

"He broke the law and tried to do something wrong, and he got what he deserve," John Renn told the news station. "You shouldn't be stealing or trespassing or robbing someone's house and taking what they have."

The homeowner has not been charged in relation to the shooting.
