Harrington: Trump Signed 'Commonsense' Executive Order on Health Care

Washington Free Beacon reporter Elizabeth Harrington called President Donald Trump's executive order on health care Thursday a "commonsense" measure that conservatives have wanted for years.

Trump signed an executive order allowing Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines, a move that was praised by vehement Obamacare opponent Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.).

"Here what we have is something that conservatives have been talking about for years," Harrington said on Fox Business. "Pretty much a decade they've been saying we need to open up health insurance like any other insurance, car insurance or anything else. You need to be able to buy it across state lines. You need competition. That will drive prices down, so I think this is one commonsense thing that he can do through the regulatory action."

TheĀ Free Beacon reported:

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday that will allow Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines.

The order is intended to expand choices to current Obamacare plans and increase competition so that costs come down for consumers.

"The time has come to give Americans the freedom to purchase health insurance across state lines, which will create a truly competitive national marketplace that will bring costs way down and provide far better care," President Trump said.

Under the order, the secretary of labor will consider allowing American employers to form groups across states, which will expand access to Association Health Plans.
