Teacher Claims Appearance on 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' Got Her Suspended

June 21, 2017

A teacher at Essex County College in New Jersey who appeared on Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight" claims that her interview on the show caused her to be suspended from her job.

Lisa Durden, who taught a speech class, was suspended from the college on June 8, two days after her controversial appearance on Fox News, the Star-Ledger reports.

Durden, who is African American and a Black Lives Matter supporter, argued in favor of a party that would prohibit anyone who is not black from attending. Throughout the interview, Durden interrupted host Tucker Carlson as he tried to ask questions and went off on tangents.

"I'm not even sure you're capable of having this conversation," Carlson said in the interview.

Durden received a letter from the school's administration saying that she was suspended, "until further notice." The letter did not cite her television appearance, but Durden claimed that an administration official told her that was the cause.

"They did this to humiliate me,'' Durden said. "Essex County College publicly lynched me in front of my students.''

Durden wants to be reinstated and has hired a lawyer. She has received support from other teachers at the school and some of her students.
