Pence: 'Great Privilege' Attending Super Bowl With 'a Couple of American Heroes'

February 6, 2017

Vice President Mike Pence told Fox's Brian Kilmeade on Sunday that it was a special experience being able to spend the Super Bowl with "a couple of American heroes."

The interview aired Monday morning on "Fox and Friends."

Pence started off by saying how his family previously had been to a Super Bowl, but their trip to Houston for this year's game would be a bit different.

"It's been made even more special by being with a couple of American heroes," Pence said.

Pence told Kilmeade that he attended the game with Marine Staff Sgt. Tony Mannino and Army Staff Sgt. Frederick Manning, who were both injured in the line of duty. They were invited as special guests of the vice president.

"It was our great privilege to give them a ride down to Houston today and to be able to share what we know is going to be a great Super Bowl," Pence said.

Sgt. Mannino was a New England Patriots fan while Sgt. Manning rooted for the Atlanta Falcons.

Pence additionally remarked that he was looking forward to seeing former President George H.W. Bush participate in the coin flip before the game. Bush was recently released from a 16-day stint in the hospital after complications from pneumonia.

The Patriots won the Super Bowl by beating the Falcons 34-28 after trailing at one point by 25 points in the third quarter.
