Report: Missouri Professor Who Called for 'Muscle' Against Student Reporter Charged With Assault

The Missouri mass media professor who called for "some muscle over here" to oust a student journalist from covering a public protest has been charged with 3rd-degree assault, ABC 17 reports.

Last November, Melissa Click yelled at student journalist Mark Schierbecker to "get out" and appeared to shove his camera as he taped protests at Missouri that ultimately led to the resignation of Missouri University president Tim Wolfe.

When Schierbecker pointed out he had the right to be there, Click yelled for "muscle" to get rid of him, and later on she sarcastically rebuffed Schierbecker when he noted they were on public property. Her conduct, particularly given her position as a professor of media, drew widespread ridicule and condemnation, although many Missouri faculty members expressed support for her.

ABC 17 reports:

MU Police gave documents to prosecutors on its investigation into Click back in November.

Click was seen in several videos confronting journalists and blocking their access to protests on the MU campus through physical and verbal intimidation.

The MU School of Journalism revoked her courtesy title following the incident.

MU faculty voiced their support for Click in a signed letter, but several lawmakers called for her termination earlier this month.

The video of Click's conduct begins at the 7:08 mark of the video below.
