Introducing Kamapua'a, the Surfing Pig

February 14, 2014

A pig has become famous for his incredible surfing skills.

Kamapua’a the pig (who goes by Kama) wandered into Kai Holt’s camping cabana in Hawaii a few months ago, and it’s been love ever since.

Kama and Holt share much more than a sweet relationship and a bed-- they both also love to surf.

Holt was unaware of Kama’s swimming and surfing abilities until Kama accidentally fell into the pool. Kama immediately began swimming. Holt decided to take him to the beach and eventually the pair soon became Hawaii’s most notorious surfing pair.

"I think he enjoys it … It seems like he’s having a good time when he’s out there. I think it makes him happy," Holt told KGMB-TV.

Do not let Kama’s small size fool you, though- he has mastered Hawaii’s biggest waves.

Kama has quite a following-- jealous canines watch him in envy and beach goers snap pictures every time he goes out for a surf.

"You know, surfing is Hawaii's gift to the world," Holt said. "It's like true happiness, you know, and that's what this guy does. Everywhere he goes he makes people smile and laugh. He just brings joy to the world."

Kama is so famous that he receives free surfboards from Costco, a GoPro camera, and even has his own Instagram account (@Kampauaa808).

Fans concerned about Kama’s wellbeing and future need not worry. The only board this piggy will ever be on is a surfboard.

"As long as he lives, he's not going to see the dinner plate, that's for sure," Holt reassured us.
