Oliver Stone's movie about the treasonous individual who stole American national security documents and fled with them to not one but two enemy states, Snowden, has had its release date bumped back:

Open Road is moving Oliver Stone’s Snowden from its Christmas Day release date to 2016.

The move bumps the film about Edward Snowden, the former government contractor who leaked classified information, from this year’s Oscar race. A spokesperson for Open Road Films did not comment.

According to "sources," the movie is not done yet. But I think we all know the real reason why Snowden has been pushed back: Oliver Stone fears the competition. You know what else comes out this Christmas?

Obviously, Stone was feeling the heat. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is going to suck up all the viewers who are interested in watching a fantasy about a lunatic with a persecution complex who hits the road. Snowden wouldn't have a chance at the box office (or with critics) against this monster. Probably a good call to push it back a bit.

Personally, I hope Snowden goes head to head with Bayghazi:

That way we can determine once and for all whether audiences prefer watching traitors or heroes on the big screen. It'd be the perfect natural experiment!
