R.I.P. Mac Daddy

Hip-hop lost one of its pioneers last night when Chris Kelly, better known as "Mac Daddy" of the duo Kriss Kross, was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in his Atlanta home.

The Charette flag is set at half-mast and a nation mourns by wearing its clothes backwards in remembrance of Kelly’s trademark.

Kriss Kross will forever be enshrined in hip-hop lore for the smash hit ‘Jump,’ a basic chord progression that has ignited countless frat parties and wedding receptions and soon-to-be last calls at Tom Tom.

First discovered by Janet Jackson’s husband at only 13-years-old, Kriss Kross’s debut ‘Totally Krossed Out" went on to certify quadruple-platinum, while "Jump" spent eight weeks at the top of the charts.

Follow-up albums "Da Bomb" and "Young, Rich, and Dangerous" moved fewer units combined than their first record. Really, though, the duo had moved on post-"Jump" to repping for Sprite.

Kriss Kross lives on, in Kelly’s partner Chris "Daddy Mac" Smith, and in the hearts of all those who come stompin’ with somethin’ pumpin’ to keep them jumpin'.
