On Columbus Day, Left-Wing Legislatures Embrace Confederate Doctrine of Nullification

Real Americans across the country are celebrating Columbus Day, but in a handful of left-wing strongholds, a dangerous ideology is afoot:

For the first time this year, Seattle and Minneapolis will recognize the second Monday in October as "Indigenous People's Day." The cities join a growing list of jurisdictions choosing to shift the holiday's focus from Christopher Columbus to the people he encountered in the New World and their modern-day descendants.

The Seattle City Council voted last week to reinvent the holiday to celebrate "the thriving cultures and values of Indigenous Peoples in our region." The Minneapolis City Council approved a similar measure in April "to reflect upon the ongoing struggles of Indigenous people on this land, and to celebrate the thriving culture and value that Dakota, Ojibwa and other indigenous nations add to our city."

By seeking to "reinvent" Columbus Day, which was formally established as a federal holiday as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968, these left-wing radicals are effectively embracing the Confederate doctrine of nullification. The doctrine, which holds that states have the Constitutional authority to nullify federal laws, was widely espoused by secessionists such as John C. Calhoun prior to the Civil War. It has been repeatedly rejected by the Supreme Court.

Here is the text of the relevant federal statute:

Liberal efforts to unilaterally amend this provision, which was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson, is proof that the War on Columbus Day is merely a disturbing, neo-Confederate front in the broader left-wing War on the Constitution.

Wake up, America!
