Hillary Clinton has faced a lot of "hard choices" over the course of her politically themed ascent to extraordinary wealth. And few have been more harrowing than the one she faces now: Where to take her summer vacation?
The Clintons have summered in the Hamptons over the last several years. They typically spend about $200,000 (a little less than one hour's pay on the speaking circuit) to rent out a beachfront mansion for the month of August. However, last year they downsized, opting for a $100,000-a-month seven-bedroom estate next door to their good buddy Harvey Weinstein. That's where Hillary was photographed walking on the beach sporting a stylish muumuu.
With August fast approaching, the vacation question is beginning to weigh heavily on Team Clinton. The New York Times is on it:
But the Clintons’ go-to vacation spot for the last several summers now seems problematic, as Mrs. Clinton, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president, delivers a populist economic message that the deck is stacked in favor of the wealthiest Americans and that she plans to "reshuffle the cards."
Thus, it may not be ideal for Mr. and Mrs. Clinton to be photographed mingling at summer cocktail parties with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin, Steven Spielberg and other wealthy Hamptons regulars.
The Clintons looked into renting another home in the Hamptons, but they have hesitated to sign a lease, said several real estate agents in the Hamptons, who could discuss the Clintons only on condition of anonymity for fear of jeopardizing their client list.
The Clintons are also reportedly planning to spend "at least one weekend" in Martha's Vineyard, where they used to vacation when they were poor. They will likely spend time with the Obamas and Vernon Jordan, the longtime Clinton confidante who helped "settle" the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
