A Charlotte woman had her son arrested for stealing her Pop-Tarts earlier this week.

According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report, the mother called investigators on Monday to report her Pop-Tarts had been stolen from her home on Goldstaff Lane. She fingered her own son, who is a juvenile, as the culprit.

[...]

The report said that the boy was placed under juvenile arrest and was charged with larceny/misdemeanor.

Another neighbor, Tiffany Covington, said in her house, food is there for everyone.

“It would be nice if they asked, but they don’t. They are kids,” she said.

The mom declined to comment.

Massachusetts Republican Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez called opponent Rep. Ed Markey (D., Mass.) “pond scum” during an interview with an NPR reporter on Thursday, Politico reports.

Gomez was asked about an ad his campaign released earlier this week accusing Markey of comparing Gomez to Osama bin Laden in a Web video that placed their images side-by-side:

“I don’t think there’s anything more offensive,” Gomez said. “You know I’ve got four young kids, and they gotta sit there and gotta see an ad with their dad — who served honorably, talk to anybody I served with — whether as a pilot or as a SEAL, anybody I worked with. And for him to be as dirty and low, pond scum, like to put me up next to bin Laden, he’s just gotta be called what he is. It’s that simple.”

The Boston Globe reports the Gomez campaign demanded that Markey take down the video, saying the juxtaposition is disgraceful since Gomez was a Navy Seal.

Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton called President Obama’s counterterrorism policy speech ”a further retreat from the war on terror” Friday on Fox News, criticizing his language with regards to terrorist attacks in Benghazi and Boston and his continued touting of al-Qaeda being on the path to defeat.

‘The policy he revealed yesterday indicates he’s going to try to wind down the war on terror even further,” he said. “I think this makes us more vulnerable … He said we can solve it through law enforcement matters. We have already seen that the Justice Department and others have identified 18 people associated with the Benghazi attack, but we have not moved against them because we don’t have enough evidence to prove them guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in an American courtroom. They’re never going to get to an American courtroom and we shouldn’t wait for that anyway. This is a fundamental, conceptual choice here.”

Part of Obama’s address Thursday included references to the weakening of al-Qaeda, calling it a shell of its former self.

“Today, the core of al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan is on a path to defeat,” Obama said. “Their remaining operatives spend more time thinking about their own safety than plotting against us. They did not direct the attacks in Benghazi or Boston. They have not carried out a successful attack on our homeland since 9/11. Instead, what we’ve seen is the emergence of various al-Qaeda affiliates.”

The remarks drew criticism from Republicans, including Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.), who said Obama’s argument came from an incredible degree of unreality. Bolton called Obama’s statements symptoms of “myopia.”

“This is willful blindness,” he said. “You define al-Qaeda to be a small band trapped in Waziristan and then you say the problem’s over. Maybe it’s good politics for the president, I leave that to others to decide, but it’s very bad for national security.”

A graphic about bright young major league players from Thursday night’s Kansas City Royals game misidentified Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper as Detroit Tigers outfielder Bryce Hunter, Deadspin reports.

Among other errors, the graphic also had the wrong teams for Matt Jones of the New York Mets, calling him a Baltimore Oriole, Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles, putting him on the Chicago White Sox, and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels, saying he was on the New York Yankees.

The broadcast was also marred by a fan who charged the field and stole the rosin bag from the pitcher’s mound.

On Thursday MSNBC’s Chris Hayes referred to yesterday’s attackers in London as a murderers instead of terrorists. This contradicts what British Prime Minster David Cameron said today while addressing yesterdays attacks, “This country will be absolutely resolute in its stand against violent extremism and terror. We will never give in to terror or terrorism in any of its forms.” The British government has also classified yesterdays incident as a terrorist attack.

MARTIN BASHIR: What was your reaction to when the president actually said that the war of terror must end?

CHRIS HAYES: Incredibly

BASHIR: Because given the circumstances in which we’re living, yesterday in London, two lunatics out of nowhere. With no connection to any terrorist nexus or organization decide to hack a British soldier to death in the name of Allah, as they said. Where does the war end?

HAYES: Well, this I thought that was such an important point. He says at one point, we cannot allow any group of thugs that calls itself Al Qaeda to bait us into an endless war. The point is, the Tsarnaev brothers who the Vice President called knockoff jihadist. These two suspects, I mean, hard to say suspects when you see them killing someone on camera, in London, they may say that they’re some affiliate of something. These are just murderers. These are murderers.

DONALD RUMSFELD: [...] The space that we occupied for example during the Cold War, where we competed against the ideas of communism, to my knowledge our government is not competing in that space at all.

JAKE TAPPER: Have we ever? Did we during the Bush years?

DONALD RUMSFELD: No. I was asked in the press and I gave us a D minus and I’m an easy grader. I’d give this administration an F because they won’t even use the words. Until today I haven’t heard people use the word jihad. I haven’t heard the people in the Obama administration talk about the fact that there are people that are determined to kill innocent men, women, and children that are attacking the whole concept of the nation state. They avoid those words.

Following President Obama’s remarks at the National Defense University on Thursday. Senator John McCain was “dumbfounded that the president would say we must strengthen the opposition in Syria”. McCain went on to say the Middle East is in a state of turmoil, and is is desperate need of American leadership.

JOHN MCCAIN: I am dumbfounded that the president would say we must strengthen the opposition in Syria when again we are banking on the goodwill of the Russians and some kind of peace conference that may take place, may or may not take place next month. There’s a number of other comments about the president lost speech that I would be glad to go into, but maybe it is better addressed in the question and answer period. The Middle East is in turmoil. The Middle East crisis out for American leadership. American leadership is absent in the Middle East, and that is the price, that is the price we have paid in Iraq, that’s price we have paid in Libya, that’s price we are paying in Syria and other countries today. I asked the president to lead, be involved, be engaged, and that does not mean troops on the ground, but it means an exercise of leadership including providing a safe zone for the people who are struggling against Bashar Al- Assad and taking out Assad’s assets and giving the resistance the weapons that they need.
