Katy Tur Salutes Wolff for Book: 'Congratulations on the President Hating It'

January 8, 2018

MSNBC host Katy Tur congratulated Michael Wolff on Monday for his new book about the Trump White House and added a "congratulations on the president hating it."

Wolff stopped by Tur's program in the midst of a whirlwind media tour about Fire and Fury: Inside Trump's White House. The book has set off a firestorm in Washington due to its depiction of President Donald Trump as an incompetent child whose top aides, Wolff writes, all have questioned his fitness for office.

"Michael Wolff, it is a fascinating book," Tur said at the end of their interview. "Fire and Fury. As you can see, I did read it. Congratulations on the book, and congratulations on the president hating it."

"Thank you," Wolff said.

Tur published her own book about Trump last year, detailing her experiences covering her campaign for MSNBC and NBC News. She wrote she almost vomited on the night of Trump's election victory.

Trump has personally blasted Wolff's book as "really boring and untruthful" and derided Wolff himself as a "total loser." The fallout from the book and Steve Bannon's critical remarks about Trump and his family led to the president blasting his former chief strategist as having "lost his mind," and Trump's legal team sent a cease-and-desist letter to Wolff and his publisher last week.

Wolff has stated the "25th amendment" is often discussed at the White House, referring to the transition of powers if the president is unable to fulfill his duties.

Wolff's book contains factual errors and has been criticized for its sensational reporting style and the veracity of his quotes and anecdotes, but he says he stands by his writing 100 percent.
