Washington Free Beacon editor in chief Matthew Continetti said Thursday that the message of Hillary Clinton's new book is that "everyone is responsible expect for Hillary."
Continetti appeared on a panel on MSNBC's "Meet the Press Daily," where host Chuck Todd read an excerpt from Clinton's new book, What Happened.
"The [New York] Times, as usual, played an outsized role in shaping the coverage of my emails throughout the election. To me, the paper's approach felt schizophrenic," Todd read.
"Her anger at the Times was throughout the campaign," he said. "And I would tell my conservative friends, 'trust me, I think the Clinton campaign hates the Times more than you guys do."
Continetti responded by pointing out that the Times was not the only subject of Clinton's ire.
"She's angry at everybody," he said. "She's angry at Comey, the New York Times, Bernie, Obama. Everyone is responsible except for Hillary."
"This is Hillary Clinton's chance to speak her mind, to tell people what she's really thinking," Continetti said. "How many times has Hillary Clinton introduced herself to the American public in almost 30 years in the national spotlight? They know who Hillary Clinton is, and because of her own mistakes she wasn't elected president."
Continetti questioned the purpose of Clinton publishing the tell-all in the first place.
"How is this going to help her image or recover her lost ground? She's now in some polls less popular than President Trump," he said.
Later in the segment, Todd parroted Clinton supporters who claimed that she was subject to a double standard.
"Let me play devil's advocate here," he said. "When she speaks out, everybody says, 'why are you speaking out?' When she doesn't speak out, people are saying, 'how come you don't speak out?'"
"Who would be saying that, other than people who are employed by some aspect of the Clinton machine?" Continetti asked, laughing.
