The Republican National Committee expanded its massive fundraising lead over the Democratic National Committee in July, bringing in over $6 million more than its rival.

The RNC raised $10.2 million in July compared to the DNC's $3.8 million. This marks the Democrats' worst fundraising performance in July in a decade, according to The Hill:

The Democrats haven't raised that little money in a July since 2007; the party raised $3.4 million in that month.

The Hill obtained the RNC's fundraising numbers ahead of the party's official filing with the Federal Election Commission, while the DNC posted its figures on Friday.

The vast fundraising gap gels with recent trends — the GOP has substantially out-fundraised its rivals since the start of 2017.

The RNC raised $86.5 million through the first seven months of the year, while the DNC raised about $42 million.

Republicans also have a massive lead in cash, with $47.1 million to the DNC's $6.9 million.

This lag in fundraising has frustrated Democrats who see an opportunity amidst a growing opposition to President Donald Trump. When pressed earlier this year on the DNC's fundraising, DNC chair Tom Perez said he only "got there on March 1."

The DNC's fundraising numbers have been consistently poor this year, with May's haul being the worst fundraising performance for that month since 2003.
