Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R., Ky.) super PAC, the Senate Leadership Fund, is interested in seeing musician Kid Rock run for Senate.
Kid Rock has mentioned a potential run in the past to represent his home state of Michigan but has not taken further steps.
The president of the Senate Leadership Fund, Steven Law, said on Friday that they could support a Kid Rock for Senate campaign while on C-Span, according to the Washington Examiner.
"We'd be actually very interested in his candidacy," Law said.
In a recent poll, Kid Rock (a.k.a. Robert Ritchie) trails incumbent Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) by only eight points. The election wouldn't be until November 2018.
"The superficial sense of Kid Rock is that he's an entertainer, that he's kind of this wild redneck," Law said. "But the truth of the matter is that he's done a lot in his home state philanthropically, he's a pretty smart guy, he thinks about policy, and he's a shrewd businessman."
"So if you're watching, Kid, we hope you run," Law said into the camera.
Kid Rock references being from Michigan in many of his songs. His song "Born Free" has been used by Republican candidates, and he supported Mitt Romney during the 2012 election and President Donald Trump during the 2016 election.
